Baseball Hosts A-10 Rival George Mason At The Diamond

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will begin Atlantic 10 conference play this weekend when the team plays host to the George Mason Patriots.
The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., with the third and final game starting on Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games this weekend will be played at The Diamond in Richmond, Va.

Scouting the SpidersThe Richmond Spiders come in to this weekend's games with the Patriots with an overall record of 7-7 on the season. This past week, Richmond split a two-game, midweek series with Minnesota, losing 13-12 on Tuesday before defeating the Golden Gophers, 13-2, on Wednesday.
Offensively, the Spiders are hitting .277 as a team and averaging nearly eight runs a game so far this season. Runs have come in bunches for UR this year, as the team has scored four or more runs in one inning 10 times this season. The pitching staff has been solid as well, posting a team ERA of 4.24 with 119 strikeouts in 123 innings pitched.
Scouting the Patriots
The George Mason Patriots enter this weekend with an overall record of 7-9 on the year, having won three of their last four games. After winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament last season, the Patriots were picked to finish third this year in a preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches.
Offense has been the strength of Mason so far this year, as the Patriots are hitting .281 as a team with eight home runs and 78 RBI. On the mound, GMU has posted a team ERA of 4.66 with 115 strikeouts in 145 innings pitched.
