Women's Lacrosse Starts A-10 Schedule At Home
03/26/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse begins Atlantic 10 Conference play by hosting a pair of league foes at Robins Stadium this weekend. Friday, the Spiders take on St. Bonaventure at 11 a.m. before hosting Saint Joseph's Sunday at 1 p.m. All lacrosse games at Richmond have free admission.
Richmond went 3-6 through its non-conference schedule. The Spiders are averaging a little more than eight goals per game, but have scored 10 or more in four of their last five outings. A trio of seniors, Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey), Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado) and Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York), all have breached the 10-goal mark this season. Doyle also adds 14 assists to the mix and is eight assists away from becoming the program's all-time leader in that category.
Last season, the Spiders finished in a tie for second in the league with a 5-2 A-10 record. This season Richmond finishes with its last eight games all in league, with the addition of Davidson this season.
Richmond beat St. Bonaventure 19-8 in the final regular season game of 2014. The Spiders own a 7-2 all-time mark in the series.
The Bonnies are 1-7 to start the year, getting their first win on March 19 against St. Francis (Pa.). Six players have reached double-digit goals, led by Kaitlin Jennings, who has 14. Morgan Conroy handles the majority of the goalie duties. She has amassed 89 saves, but has allowed 111 goals for a goals-against average of 14.4 for the season.
Saint Joseph's will host George Mason Friday before making the trip to Richmond for Sunday's game. Finishing the non-conference schedule 5-3, the Hawks enter the weekend winning two of three. SJU also has three scorers with 10 or more goals, led by Sarah Smith's 18. Goalie Nora McGeever is allowing a little more than 10 goals per game and has 76 saves so far in her eight starts. Saint Joseph's is third in the league in scoring, averaging a little over 11 goals per game.
The Spiders have lost just once to Saint Joseph's in 14 all-time meetings. Richmond won 10-4 in Philadelphia last season.
Both games will appear on SpiderTV on the A-10 Digital Network.
