Women's Lacrosse Hosts No. 15 James Madison Friday
03/05/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Looking for a third-straight win Friday, the Richmond Spiders women's lacrosse team hosts in-state rival and 15th-ranked James Madison for a 6 p.m. opening draw at Robins Stadium. Admission for Richmond lacrosse is free.
Richmond has won its last two, with 13 and 15-goal outputs. Richmond (3-3) has more than doubled the season scoring in those last two contests. The Spiders had a pair of four-goal performances last Saturday at Liberty, while senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) put in six goals in Wednesday night's 15-8 home win over Old Dominion.
The Monarchs were 4-1 entering that game, the same current record as the Dukes, who have won their last four contests. Their last time out the Dukes upset 14th-ranked Loyola 11-10 in overtime to keep the win streak alive. After losing to second-ranked North Carolina to start the season, JMU has taken out Virginia Tech, Connecticut and High Point along the way.
JMU's Betsy Angel has 19 points for the season (13G, 6A), while Alison Curwin leads the team with eight assists and Stephanie Finley adds 12 goals for the Dukes.
The JMU defense has been strong, with goalie Schylar Healy allowing less than 10 goals per game. She has been the goalie of record for all five JMU contests.
The Spiders are led in scoring by Doyle, who has 10 goals and eight assists so far this season. She sits second all-time at UR with 80 career assists. Fellow senior Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado) is the other 10-point scorer for Richmond, logging seven goals and three assists so far for the Spiders. Seven Spiders have five or more points this season so far in the balanced attack. Only one opponent in the last four has gotten to 10 goals, with the UR defense averaging just under seven goals allowed per game in that stretch.

Following Friday's contest, the Spiders will take spring break week off before playing on the West Coast the following Sunday, at Oregon. The Spiders will return home for their home A-10 opener against St. Bonaventure at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28.
