BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Richmond diving sophomore Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) and freshman Laura Rokop (Carmel, Indiana) finished day one of the 2015 NCAA Zones after the 3m springboard event Monday in Buffalo, New York.
Rokop was 23rd, with a career-best score of 255.80 after the six dives of her Monday program, while Chiulli finished 28th, with a score of 244.00.
Neither was able to make the 18-diver cut to the finals, but both will compete in Tuesday's 1m competition.
"Laura was very consistent, and the judges took notice,” said Richmond head diving coach Sean Letsinger.
“Irina had a few misses, but I am very proud of her composure and positivity as she finished the event. The quality of diving from all competitors today was much better than last year at this meet. Both Irina and Laura are representing Richmond very well, and we look forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow!"
The divers are allowed to warmup as early as 7 a.m. Tuesday, with the 1m diving event starting at noon.
