04/18/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond women's lacrosse will play its final home game of 2015 Sunday, with a 1 p.m. opening draw against Duquesne in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Spiders will send off their six seniors in a postgame ceremony.
Richmond is 7-7 overall, 4-1 and in second place in the A-10 with three games to go. A win could clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament in two weeks, depending on the results of other games over the weekend.
The Dukes are also 7-7 overall, 3-2 in the A-10. Duquesne started their weekend with a one-goal road loss (14-13) at George Washington Friday before heading to Robins Stadium for the Sunday contest.
The Dukes have won the previous three regular-season meetings against Richmond, with the Spiders' lone win in the last four meetings coming at the A-10 Tournament in Richmond in 2012. Duquesne defeated Richmond last season in Pittsburgh 10-8 on April 25. The Spiders and Dukes were in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings at 5-2 last season.
This year, Richmond enters the weekend second in the league with a 9.36 goals-against average. Both teams are averaging over nine goals per game, while the Dukes have allowed more than 10.5 goal per game this season.
Individually, Richmond senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) leads the league in assists, and is second in points and points per game. Fellow senior Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado) is second in the A-10 with nearly four draws controlled per game. Senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland) is second in the A-10 in goals-against average, third in saves and fourth in save percentage. She got over 100 saves for the season last weekend, the second time in the last three seasons she has reached triple figures in saves. She has 307 for her career.
The Dukes had won four in a row before Friday's loss, including an 11-10 victory at Michigan on April 5. Senior Claire Hurley won Co-Player of the Week earlier in the league this week. She has 26 goals, second-most on the team to Kaelin Shaw's 29 as the team hits the road for the weekend. Goalie Jenna Bishop has 101 saves and a goals-against average of 10.02 this year.
Richmond's senior class, including Katie Cahill, Erin Marie Geoghan and Anna Jeszeck, will be honored by the team following the conclusion of this home finale.
Richmond will finish on the road next weekend, with games at La Salle and Massachusetts ahead of the A-10 Championships, which start Friday, May 1 at George Washington.
