Spiders Fall To Colonials In Atlantic 10 Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to the No. 6-seeded George Washington Colonials on Friday morning, 7-2.
With the loss, Richmond ends the 2015 season with an overall record of 28-15 – the most wins for the team since 2013. This year marked the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Spiders have won at least 28 games. UR is the only team to have earned a berth to the last five Atlantic 10 Tournaments.
OF Michael Morman and 3B Matt Dacey led the offense for the Spiders on Friday morning, with each collecting three hits, with Morman driving in a run. Freshman DH Kyle Adams had a hit and a RBI in the loss to conclude his fantastic rookie season.
Freshman RHP Brendan McGuigan (2-4) pitched well in his first start in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, going five innings. The rookie allowed three runs, with just two being earned. Junior RHP Dan Martinson tossed 1.1 innings of shutout relief, while senior RHP James Lively recorded the final out the seventh inning.
Senior LHP Zak Sterling and senior RHP Ray Harron combined to pitch a shutout eighth inning for the Spiders. Sterling made his 59th and final appearance of a stellar career, while Harron made his 94th for UR, ranking him second all-time in school history.

Both 2B Daniel Brumbaugh and OF Tanner Stanley singled, putting runners at the corners with one out for Morman. On a 1-0 pitch, Morman tied the game with a RBI sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Brumbaugh from third base.
Three batters later, the bases were loaded after a single from Dacey and a walk to 1B Doug Kraeger. Adams had a terrific at-bat for the Spiders, drawing a walk to give Richmond a 2-1 lead.
The Colonials would score the game's next six runs, however, plating two in the third and four in the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead in to the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Richmond was unable to stage a rally, falling to George Washington, 7-2.
