KW: This summer I have been lucky enough to study abroad in Florence, Italy. I am taking an art history course through Boston College (BBC) with two Boston College lacrosse players, one of them being my best friend from home. The class I am taking is called Art and Architecture of Renaissance Florence and for each class we go to a different beautiful church or museum. The history of the city is fascinating and I have been enjoying learning about it so much! One perk of studying abroad in Florence is that many other American schools have programs here, so we keep running into people that we know. But I've also gotten to meet a lot of new people as well...
I am about halfway through my time here in Italy and I feel like I have already done so much! We flew into Milan two weeks ago and went to both Venice and Cinque Terre that first weekend. After that, we settled into our home in Florence and started exploring the city. We have class Monday through Thursday and spend the weekend traveling. This past weekend we went to the beautiful Amalfi Coast. We went on hikes, boat tours, and even got to visit one of the seven wonders of the world, the Blue Grotto. The views were incredible and I recommend that you all put this on your bucket list!...
After our exciting weekend, we continued with a week of classes. This week our program provided a cooking class for us. Anyone who knows about my love of food or has spent quality time with me in D-Hall will understand that this has been one of my favorite activities so far! With the help of local restaurant chefs, we learned how to make homemade ravioli and tortellini as well as a dessert, tiramisu. Thankfully, they offered assistance to those who were not skilled in the art of cooking, like myself, and by the end the class we managed to put together a delicious meal, which we all sat down together to eat...
Tomorrow I am heading to Prague for the weekend! After getting recommendations from my teammate Catherine McTiernan, who is currently studying in Prague, my friends and I have a great itinerary planned. In my last three weeks here, there is still so much to look forward to. Next week, former Richmond Spiders Anna Jeszeck and Emily Boyce will be visiting in Florence and I'm really looking forward to catching up with them and hearing about their many backpacking adventures. Our last two weekends will be spent in Rome and Barcelona before we head home just in time for the 4th of July!
