Men's Lacrosse Adds Perzinski To Coaching Staff
07/17/2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Richmond men's lacrosse head coach Dan Chemotti has announced the hiring of Chris Perzinski as assistant coach for the squad for the 2015-16 season. The Freeland, Maryland native coached at his alma mater, Lynchburg College, twice and will be coaching in Division I for the first time with the defending regular-season Southern Conference champion Spiders this year.
“We are extremely excited that Chris Perzinski has joined the University of Richmond lacrosse program,” said Chemotti. “Chris demonstrates all of the characteristics that I've learned to value in an assistant coach. He is the ultimate professional, he very much understands the definition of loyalty, and to say he is hard working is an understatement. He combines those traits with an enthusiastic personality and passion for coaching the game of lacrosse.”
Perzinski spent four out of the last five years as the top assistant at Lynchburg College, who recently competed for the 2015 Division III National Championship. During his time at Lynchburg the program compiled a 68-18 win-loss record and went to three NCAA tournaments.
“There's no doubt in my mind that his work ethic in recruiting and his knowledge on the field had plenty to do with Lynchburg competing for the 2015 National Championship,” added Chemotti. Chris has also learned from some of the most well-respected coaches (Lynchburg's Steve Koudelka and Gettysburg's Hank Janczyk) our game has to offer. We are lucky to have him here at Richmond and we are confident that he will make an immediate impact in every facet of our program.”
Perzinski served as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Gettysburg College for the 2013 season. He has recruited and coached 15 D-III All-Americans, four of whom earned First-Team accolades.
"It is a great honor to join the men's lacrosse staff and campus community of the University of Richmond. I have always been familiar with the campus culture and integrity of the institution through the college search process of my brother Curtis, a 2010 Richmond alum. Coach Chemotti and Coach Richards have not only had immediate success here at Richmond, but with every other institution they have been associated with. Richmond has everything one could ask for in a higher-education institution as well as nationally recognized lacrosse program. I am extremely excited to join this team and assist in all capacities to this program's commitment to success and high standards of national achievement."
A 2008 graduate at Lynchburg, he was a two-time captain, earning Third-Team All-America and First-Team All-Conference honors for the Hornets. He was also a North-South Game participant and earned VaSID All-State honors. Following his collegiate playing career, Perzinski was the first captain of the Polish National Lacrosse team that competed in the World Games of 2010 in Manchester England, and 2014 in Denver, Colorado.
His first experience in coaching was with Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA where he coached the team to the Northwest Region title in 2009. The following year with Albemarle Perzinski was the U.S. Lacrosse Assistant Coach of the Year in 2010 in the Virginia High School region.
Perzinski earned a Master's in Educational Leadership at Lynchburg in 2012. His brother, Curt, is a 2010 graduate of Richmond.
