08/20/2015 | Football
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 18-ranked University of Richmond Spiders football team continued training on Thursday morning with the team's 16th practice.
On an overcast, muggy morning at Robins Stadium, the Richmond Spiders football team scrimmaged for the first time in camp. The team began practice by running through some drills before starting the scripted scrimmage. Richmond scrimmaged for nearly an hour, with hitting being limited.
Practice Observations
- On the first play of the scrimmage, QB Kyle Lauletta rolled out to his right, hitting WR Brian Brown down the right sideline for 25 yards.
- DL Winston Craig played well in the scrimmage for the defense, constantly getting in the backfield, tallying what would have been a pair of sacks.
- LB Omar Howard and LB Trevor Jones also did a nice job for the Spider defense, getting in the quarterbacks' faces on a few plays.
- RB Jeremiah Hamlin looked sharp in practice, reeling off three slashing runs for gains of over 10 yards apiece.
- The best throw of the scrimmage came for Lauletta, who found Brown down the left sideline for a 21-yard touchdown in the back corner of the end zone.
- PK Peter Yoder, a Preseason All-CAA selection, connected on a 42-yard and a 33-yard field goal during the scrimmage.
- DB Ayo Oguniyyi and DB Jarriel Jordan each had a pass breakup, with Jordan nearly coming away with an interception in the end zone.
- A pair of true freshmen came up with a nice play in the scrimmage, as QB Kevin Johnson found WR Gershom Ejoni, who made a terrific catch along the left sideline for a 15-yard gain.
