Postseason Success
The Richmond Spiders are no strangers to postseason success. Dating back to the 2007 season, the Spiders are 7-3 in their last 10-playoff games – including winning the National Championship in 2008. All-time, Richmond is 12-9 in the FCS Playoffs. Last season the Spiders advanced to the second round of the FCS Playoffs with a 46-24 win over Morgan State and would finish with a 9-5 record to go with a 5-3 mark in the CAA.
Dynamic All-CAA WR Duo
WR Reggie Diggs and WR Brian Brown provided a great, 1-2 punch for Richmond last season. Diggs, a Second-Team All-CAA honoree in 2014 and Preseason All-CAA choice, ranked second in the CAA in receiving yards (1,157) and second in receptions (85). Brown, a Third-Team All-CAA honoree and also a Preseason All-CAA choice, was third in the league in receiving yards (1,089) and third in receptions (79).
2014 FCS Playoffs
WR's Reggie Diggs and Brian Brown post had huge games in the FCS Playoffs in 2014. Diggs finished with 272 yards on 16 receptions in just two games, finishing second among all WR that participated in the playoffs in terms of yards gained. Brown caught 14 balls for 216 yards and ranked fourth among wide-outs with 108 yards/game.
On This Date in Spider Football History
The Richmond Spiders have played four times on Sept. 5 and three times opposite FBS opponents. In the most recent tilt the Spiders took a trip to Durham, N.C. and upset the Duke Blue Devils, 24-16. Richmond, which was ranked No. 2 in the nation at the time, limited Duke to just 19 yards rushing en route to earning its second win over an FBS opponent if four years.
