Spiders Hit The Road For Conference Opener

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Richmond Spiders (2-4) head north to open Atlantic 10 play with matches at Lock Haven (6-0) on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and at UMass (4-2) on Sunday at noon.
After the Spiders started the season with a pair of home wins, UR has run up against a string of tough teams, losing against three nationally-ranked opponents in the last two weeks.
The Spiders' Kelly Quinn leads the squad with two goals while six other Spiders have recorded at least two points thus far. UR is even in total shots in the first half, but have been outshot in the second half in the last four contests.
SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN
Richmond is 4-3 all-time against Lock Haven despite suffering a 1-0 loss last season to the Bald Eagles. LHU is a perfect 6-0 to start the season, marking the program's best start since 2004. Lock Haven's 0.49 team goals-against-average is ranked No. 1 among all Division I teams. Goalkeeper Paige Stuppy's 0.73 GAA is ranked No. 3 among all Division I goalkeepers. The Bald Eagles have allowed just three goals all season.
SCOUTING UMASS
The Spiders lead the all-time series against UMass, 14-11. The teams' most recent encounter was in last year's Atlantic 10 title bout where the Spiders took a thrilling 1-0 victory in overtime to claim the A-10 crown.
The Minutewomen were picked first in the A-10 preseason poll and already have four wins including a victory at No. 20 Boston University. Melanie Kreusch, Sarah Hawkshaw, Nicole Miller lead UMass with four goals each. Goalkeeper Sam Carlino has a goals-against average of 2.29.
