10/15/2016 | Cross Country
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – It was yet another quality outing for both Richmond Cross Country programs on Friday afternoon. The Spider women placed third among 20 teams that ran the 6k race and the men placed eighth among 22 teams that ran the 8k race.
Colleen Carney was the first Spider to cross the line for the women, rolling to a 21:52.53 time and a ninth-place overall finish. Ave Grosenheider (22:11.80) followed closely behind in 21st, two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Claire Brown (22:27.25) finished 28th, Kylie Regan (22:39.64) placed 33rd and Tara Hanley (22:53.91) came in 42nd to round out the Richmond top 5.
The women finished with a total time of 1:52:05.13 with an average of 22:30.01, just over one minute behind the eventual winner, Duke. The women have been on a torrid pace this fall and should be in good position as they ready to defend their title at the A-10 Championships in two weeks.
The Richmond men were paced by rising star Miles Clikeman who rolled to a 25:42.45 time, the top freshman time in the race, and a 19th-place overall finish. Alex Lucking stayed strong with a 25:48.03 time and a 26th overall finish and Matt McKenna ran to a time of 26:52.69 in his first action this fall.
As a team the men posted a total time of 2:12:37.53 with an average of 26:31.51. They will be looking to build on last year's performance in the championships with a group of freshman that have performed up to their billing this fall.
