Spiders Unable To Overcome Rams, Fall 3-1
10/23/2016 | Women's Soccer
BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team played through a heavy wind, but were unable to overtake Fordham, falling 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
“We failed to defend two corner kicks, and that was the difference,” head coach Peter Albright said.
Fordham took an early lead when Nicole Bates scored on a header in the seventh minute.
The Spiders would not back down though, as Brooke Beam knotted the score in the 19th minute when she received the ball from Lexi Prillaman and sent it past the Fordham goalie.
Neither team scored in the remaining minutes of the first half, and entered the break tied at 1-1.
Fordham needed little time to expand its lead, scoring less than five minutes into the second half on a long shot to take a 2-1 lead.
The Rams struck again in the waning minutes, as Nicol Natale scored a break away goal in the 84th minute to make the final score 3-1.
“We played well, but there is no way to be happy about a loss at this point,” Albright added. “We have to get a two more wins, so bouncing back on Thursday against Saint Bonaventure is crucial.”
The Spiders host the Bonnies on Thursday night at Robins Stadium to begin the final weekend of regular-season play. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
