Irina Chiulli Named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After hitting NCAA Zone Qualifying marks in just the second meet of the year, senior Irina Chiulli was named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week.
This is the second weekly award for the Spiders, as freshman Hannah Gouger picked up the league's Rookie of the Week honors last week.
With her best scores of the young season, Chiulli won both the 1M and 3M diving events on both days of the Richmond Duals. On Friday, the Westwood, Mass. native scored a 268.05 on the 1M spring board to qualify for NCAA Zones. She followed it up by scoring a 295.80 in the 3M event, also a Zone Qualifying mark.
Chiulli will now compete at the NCAA Zone meet for the fourth time in her career. Thet meet is scheduled for March 6-8 in Christianburg, Va.
After back-to-back weeks of competition, the Spiders Swim & Dive program will take the weekend off from competition, but returns to action on November 4 with the divers in Charlottesville, and the swimmers in Charlotte, N.C on November 5.
