NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Five Spiders were honored with Atlantic 10 honors on Wednesday morning, the league office announced. Senior Kelly Quinn, junior Megan Miller and sophomore Thalia Williamson landed on the A-10 First Team. While freshmen Amanda DaSilva and Abby Lyons garnered All-Rookie honors.
Quinn picks up First Team honors for the second consecutive year. In her final season with the Spiders she had four goals during the regular season all of which game against A-10 opponents and three were game-winners. The senior from Marlton, N.J. also logged one assist and a defensive save on the season while being a consistent midfielder and stabilized the defense and attack transition.
Miller is the team-leader in assists with four. In a showdown with Massachusetts in the regular season, the junior was credited with two assists where the Spiders won 4-2. She played every minute for the Spiders in the regular season and was a major defensive player as well as proving to be an equal threat on the attack. This is the first time the Palmyra, Pa. native earned First Team honors, last season she was named to the Second Team.
Williamson earned her first A-10 honors after playing a crucial part of Richmond's defense. The sophomore proved that she could also be on the attacking end of the field as well as she scored three goals this season, including two from midfield where she dribbled through defenders to find the back of the cage.
The Spiders welcomed 10 freshmen this fall and played significant minutes as well as being immediate contributors.
DaSilva was a fixture in Richmond's backfield and consistently disrupted attacking threat this season, including against four top-20 opponents the Spiders faced. Lyons started all 18 games in her first year. She finished the regular season second on the team with three assists, two of which came in a 3-1 victory over Davidson.
The Spiders are set for an A-10 semifinal showdown on Friday afternoon with Massachusetts at VCU's Cary Street Field. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be available on the A-10 Network.
