Red Out The Robins Center Scheduled For George Washington Game
02/08/2016 | Men's Basketball
Fans attending the February 24th basketball matchup versus Atlantic 10 foe George Washington will find a free red Spider t-shirt in their seat upon arrival to the Robins Center. These free red Spider shirts will be available in all 7,201 seat locations, including the lower bowl, student section, terraces, and upper ring.
The game represents a critical late-season matchup between the teams as the seeding picture for the Atlantic 10 tournament becomes more clear. Last year, the Spiders downed George Washington 56-48 during the Red Out game in a sold-out Robins Center. Earlier this year, Richmond defeated the Colonials in double overtime on the road for a national television audience. Richmond currently ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in home attendance and is on pace for one of the program's top attendance marks in decades.
Limited tickets remain for the game, and can be purchased HERE, calling 1-877-Spider-1, or by visiting the Robins Center tickets office. Fans can buy $5 priority tickets by mentioning the Cedarfield Retirement Community when calling or visiting the ticket office.
That evening's game will also be a celebration of the academic achievements by the student-athletes from all seventeen University of Richmond varsity sports teams. Each team's top academic-performing student-athletes will be recognized, along with their teammates that hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher. University faculty and staff can receive free admission by claiming their tickets in advance, on February 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Gottwald Science Center Atrium. Tickets are provided by Diamond Springs.
The shirts, presented by Promotional Considerations, Joyner Fine Properties, and the Richmond School of Professional and Continuing Studies, were originally slated to be distributed for the January 23rd game versus Davidson but were rescheduled due to the blizzard that hit the area that weekend. Fans who held tickets for the Davidson game and did not use them still have the option of exchanging those tickets for any remaining home game this season, including the Red Out event now scheduled for the George Washington game. Limited tickets remain for all three home games, so fans are encouraged to act quickly.
The next Spider basketball home game is this weekend, February 13th versus Fordham. It is Hall of Fame Day, and will feature a halftime ceremony for this year's inductees: Bruce Allen, George Edelman, Kristen Samuhel Clarey, and Warren Mitchell. Halftime will also feature the second semifinal of this year's Bring It On Richmond dance competition, as James River High School will face off with Manchester High School for the right to compete in the March 1st finale. McDonald's Spiderlings Kids Club membership includes access to this game and the ability to RSVP for the Pirate and Princess Tea Party (members can check email communications for more information). A number of student promotions are also scheduled, including the opportunity to shoot a halfcourt shot to win $10,000, presented by Zaxby's.
