Spiders Drop 10-9 Decision To William & Mary

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team dropped a close one to in-state rival William & Mary, 10-9, Tuesday evening at Robins Stadium.
Richmond came out firing as Brook Wilson scored a goal 20 seconds into the game. The Spiders took a 2-0 lead when Kim Egizi found the back of the net with 19:48 remaining in the half.
William & Mary answered with a pair of goals less than a minute apart. The Tribe's Shannon Quinn scored her second goal of the game with 17:01 remaining in the first, giving William & Mary a 3-2 advantage. The Tribe added a goal at 16:02 to take a 4-2 lead.
With less than six minutes remaining in the half, William & Mary extended its lead behind a goal from Abby Corkum.
The Spiders looked to silence the Tribe, but in the waning minutes of the first half a shot from Mia Castagnero missed high while Natalia Chaney's shot was saved by William & Mary goalkeeper Meredith Crizer.
William & Mary's Corkum found the back of the net putting the Tribe ahead, 6-2. Brooke Wilson sent a pair of shots in, looking to cut the Tribe's lead, but the keeper stopped both chances.
With less than one minute remaining before the break, Chaney's shot sailed past the Tribe's keeper and cut William & Mary's lead to three, 6-3.
Richmond opened the second half with a pair of goals from Emily Newman and Castagnero, bringing the Spiders within one, 6-5, with 23 minutes left in regulation.
Castagnero notched her 23rd goal of the season at 13:44 to even the score, 6-6. Egizi broke the 6-6 tie, netting a goal off a pass from Katie Trainer. The Tribe responded about two minutes later, tying the game back up at 7-7. Newman netted her second goal of the game putting the Spiders back in the lead, 8-7.
William & Mary battled back scoring a pair of goals to regain the lead, 10-8. The Spiders wouldn't go quietly, as Wilson found the back of the net with 2:48 remaining. However, it wouldn't be enough as the Tribe held on for a 10-9 win.
The Spiders return to action on Friday, April 1 at Robins Stadium for the first-ever meeting with VCU. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. and will be available on the A10 Network.
