UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Off to the best start in program history, the University of Richmond men's lacrosse team will be on display for the entire Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday when they host ACC power, in-state foe and seven-time national champion UVA at Robins Stadium.
Thanks to a great partnership with CSN Mid-Atlantic, the SpiderTV broadcast of the contest will be shown live on CSN, beginning at 1 p.m. CSN will will also an encore presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“We're excited for the opportunity to put our program in front of a lot of folks who may not typically get to see us play and show them what Richmond lacrosse and Richmond athletics is all about,” Head Coach Dan Chemotti said. “This sport is growing at a rapid rate and the popularity continues to rise, not only regionally, but nationally. We truly appreciate the chance to put ourselves in front of some many kids who are playing the game today.”
This is the third straight season these two programs have faced off, the first time being the Spiders' first-ever game on Feb. 8, 2014, which drew more than four thousands fans to Robins Stadium for a thriller which the 7th-ranked Cavaliers won, 13-12.
This season, the Spiders are off to a 7-2 start, already including a win over an ACC foe when they traveled to then ninth-ranked Duke and beat the Blue Devils, 12-10, their first loss to an unranked opponent in seven years.
Leading the way has been the Richmond defense, who is limiting opponents to just 7.56 goals per game, including allowing just three goals to SoCon preseason favorite, High Point, this past Saturday.
Saturday's contest can be seen locally on Comcast (channel 7 or 846), Fios (76 or 576), DirecTV (642) and Dish Network (424). A full channel finder for your area can be found here.
SpiderTV, the Richmond athletic department's in-house video unit, has also produced football and men's basketball games for CSN and other regional sports networks. SpiderTV provides live, online video streaming with multiple cameras, replays and graphics, of Spider home athletic events, including men's and women's lacrosse games from Robins Stadium.
Richmond's local television partner, CBS affiliate WTVR, will provide technical and satellite assistance for Saturday's telecast, which will be directed by SpiderTV's Blake Ellett.
