Spiders Stay Hot With 7-0 Defeat Of Montana
03/31/2016 | Women's Tennis
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Since the start of the spring season, Head Coach Mark Wesselink has talked about the potential of the University of Richmond women's tennis team if health was on its side.
That potential has been on full display over the past month as the Spiders won for the fifth time in the past six outings, sweeping Montana, 7-0, on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Richmond.
A dominating performance by all three doubles duos quickly gave the Spiders a 1-0 advantage.
Richmond kept momentum on its side with four easy straight set victories, beginning with freshman Ana Ramirez taking down Montana's Cat Orfanor, 6-1, 6-3. Katya Salas, Gaby Rosales and Brittany Boys followed suit to push the Spiders' lead to 5-0.
Kelsey Williams battled her way to a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) win at the fourth spot in the singles lineup and Anna Abadias Morales wrapped up the sweep with a three-set 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 win at the top spot.
Richmond returns to the court on Saturday when they host Saint Joseph's in a key Atlantic 10 matchup. First serve at Westhampton Courts is set for 10 a.m.
