Spiders Picked Second In Patriot League Women's Golf Poll
03/07/2016 | Women's Golf
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Richmond women's golf team was picked second by the coaches of the Patriot League in the annual preseason poll.
UR is coming off a fourth-place finish at last season's championship, but has already expectations with a fall tournament victory in Wisconsin and a 12th-place finish last week at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic in South Carolina.
Senior Jessica Lydia and sophomore Elsa Diaz were both top-10 finishers in last season's championship and Lydia leads the Spiders in stroke average (77.20) so far this year. Diaz has one top 10 finish from the fall and an under-par round.
UR's strong trio of freshmen will look to give the Patriot League a bit of a surprise. Isabella Rusher shot a 69 to tie the school record for lowest round in program history in the final round of the Kiawah Tournament at one of the tougher courses in the country. She, along with Annie Collom and Sophie DiPetrillo give the Spiders scoring strength up and down the lineup.
Richmond continues spring play this week at the Bulldog Florida Invitational, hosted by Butler in Jacksonville.
