Gameday Central: Spiders vs. #9 Air Force

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – One of the most highly anticipated home matchups in University of Richmond men's lacrosse history will get underway at 12 p.m. when the Spiders take on #9 Air Force.
The Falcons' visit marks the third straight year that a top-10 opponent has visited Robins Stadium following #7 UVA in 2014 and #2 UNC last year.
On the line on Saturday? The SoCon Regular Season Championship and the #1 in the SoCon Tournament, which will take place at Robins Stadium on May 5 & 7.
Both the Spiders and Falcons are 5-0 entering Saturday's showdown with Richmond holding a perfect 11-0 mark in SoCon regular season play in the two seasons of lacrosse history for the SoCon.
Air Force has won 11 straight entering the contest, while Richmond has won three of its past four.
Defense Leading The Way
Legendary football coach Bear Bryant once said, “defense wins championships.”
Richmond and Air Force are following suit with both squads ranking in the top-10 nationally on the defensive end. The Falcons rank third in the country, allowing just 7.42 goals per game, while the Spiders sit eighth, allowing 7.88 goals per game.
Drive For Five
Prior to the Saturday's showdown with Air Force, Richmond will honor its five seniors, who have been critical in the development of the young Spiders' program. John Atkinson, Tyler Batesko, Alex Hatem, Tom Monzo and Cory Palmer will all be honored by Coach Chemotti and the staff.
The five have all played vital roles in the start of the program and the rise to upsetting nationally-ranked opponents and battling for regular season and conference tournament championships.
“I know when I take the field every time, I go out there knowing I want to give it my all for this group of seniors and do whatever it takes to win for them,” junior defender Ryan Dennis said.
