RICHMOND, Va. – Unfortunately in life, all good things must come to an end.
For the University of Richmond women's tennis team, that thing was their four-match win streak that was snapped on Friday in a 5-2 loss at crosstown rival VCU.
“This match is always competitive because of the city rivalry aspect and today was no different. I'm proud of the way we battled, but now we have to refocus for our final two home matches and sending our seniors out strong,” Head Coach Mark Wesselink said.
The Rams took the doubles point, sweeping all three spots to grab a 1-0 lead.
VCU kept momentum on its side with wins at each of the top three spots in the singles lineup.
However, freshman Ana Ramirez and senior Katya Salas showed some fight, winning three set thrillers at the fifth and sixth spot respectively to pick up the Spiders' two points on the day.
Richmond is back at home on Sunday for Senior Day, hosting the Dukes of Duquesne. First serve is set for 12 p.m..
