What's New At Robins Stadium in 2016

The University of Richmond Athletics Department is announcing a number of initiatives designed to enhance the total fan experience at Robins Stadium where the #3 ranked Richmond Spiders will be on a quest for their third straight NCAA FCS playoff appearance.
The Spiders' home slate starts on Saturday, September 10 at 6 pm vs. Norfolk State.
"There is a tremendous amount of excitement surrounding Coach Rocco's team," Athletic Director Keith Gill said. "It is our goal to provide the finest, most enjoyable experience in all of FCS college football. We are continuing to work hard in enhancing our game day experience in football and basketball and have implemented many suggestions as provided by our fans through our on-going fan survey process.”
Here are just some of the highlights for the 2016 football season at Robins Stadium:
• Fireworks - For first time in the history of Robins Stadium, fans will get to see a post-game fireworks show Saturday, September 10 vs. Norfolk State. Enjoy the Spider opener and remain in your seats to see the see post-game fireworks which we will set off on the Robins Center patio behind Milhiser Gymnasium. A post-game fireworks display may be added to a second home game-we will keep you posted!
• Red Zone Hospitality Area- Robins Stadium will offer the Red Zone Hospitality Area which will be located in the north end zone (adjacent to video board) in place of the former bleacher system. Red Zone will offer a hospitality experience to groups on the goal line. Red Zone will feature TVs, food, bar, and furniture to enjoy the game up close with your business associates and fellow Spider fans! For the Homecoming game October 15 vs. Villanova at 3:30 pm, there will be a 'young alum” function in the Red Zone-look for details in the coming weeks! • Football and Brews-After a successful debut at the men's basketball game vs. Northern Iowa this past year, “Football and Brews” will be introduced as a pre-game warm up to the Saturday, October 1 game vs. Towson at 3:30 pm. On beautiful Milhiser Green, local breweries will be out in full force sampling their favorite beers so you can taste some of the best micro beers in town prior to the game! • Bruce's Brigade-Richmond alum, Hall of Famer and current Washington Redskin President Bruce Allen has partnered with the athletics department to send children of Richmond area first responders to several of the Spiders' sports camps and to join the Spiderlings Kids Club, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. Spiderlings Kid's Club members can attend multiple football and basketball games for free and participate in many other exciting activities.
• Norfolk State Spartan Legion Marching Band-Check out one of college football's award-winning marching bands - the Norfolk State Spartan Legion will be performing at the Spider home opener Saturday, September 10 at 6 pm!
• More Local High School Marching Bands-Every home game this season will feature a local high school marching band performing on behalf of the Spiders. New for this season will be performances by Petersburg High School and Hopewell High School. Returning favorites include Varina High School, LC Bird High School, and Cosby High School.
• Info/Features-Prior to each game, all fans with tickets will receive an email with stats and features about the upcoming game. Single game ticket holders will be provided information about parking, campus shuttles and more to make their experience as enjoyable as possible on football Saturdays.
• Parents Weekend-On September 24th vs. Colgate, parents attending Family Weekend will be offered the opportunity to tailgate with their student at the student tailgate in B7 or in their own designated lot, lot R-20. • Concessions-Last year, our University Concessions offered the brand new "Walking Taco”. After rave reviews for the “Walking Taco”, look for several new items in 2016 such as a new foot long corndog, new angus beef home style burgers and Italian and American subs and chicken salad rolls from Ukrop's Homestyle Foods. These items are sure to be a hit with fans!
• Mini Plans-For the first time since the Spiders moved to Robins Stadium, a three-game mini plan is available to fans. Choose any three games on the home schedule for only $75!
• Sound-All of the outdoor speakers at Robins Stadium have been redirected to optimize sound quality throughout the stadium.
• New Radio Station- Football and men's basketball broadcasts are moving up the FM dial to 107.3 WBBT. On the other side of the dial, you can continue to listen in on ESPN 950AM. Tune in before, during and after the game as Voice of the Spiders Bob Black, analyst Chris Anderson, sideline reporter Matt Smith and scoreboard host Matt Josephs bring you complete coverage of the Spiders!
