UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – With one year of being Richmond's starting quarterback under his belt, junior Kyle Lauletta has high expectations for himself entering the 2016 season.
He isn't the only one as Lauletta, who was named the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year last week, was named to the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year Watch List.
“It's a tremendous honor to receive these preseason recognitions, an honor I don't take lightly. However, when we take the field tomorrow at camp, none of that matters,” Lauletta said. “We have goals we want to achieve as a team this year and in order to do so, we have to put in a lot of work, that's what we're all focused on right now.”
The Downington, Pa. native put together one of the most prolific offensive seasons in Richmond history last fall, throwing for 3,598 yards and 19 touchdowns, while adding seven rushing scores to help the Spiders earn a berth in the FCS Semifinals.
His passing yardage was the second-highest in FCS last fall and the second-highest in a single-season in program history.
Lauletta and his teammates strap on the helmets for the first time tomorrow at Robins Stadium at 2:15, getting set for the season opener on Sept. 3 at UVA.
