NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time this season the University of Richmond cross-country program has produced an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. This time it comes from the women's program in Claire Brown who competed in the Rider Cross Country Invitational 6.15K race over the weekend.
Brown helped the Spiders to a substantial 33-point margin of victory over the team that finished second on Friday afternoon with her finish of 13th overall in 22:27.86. She was one of five Spiders to land in the top 15 and one of seven to finish in the top 17.
“This weekend was a good win for the team on a longer course,” head coach Lori Taylor added. “Claire ran well in her first race at this length and handled the increased distance quite well helping our team secure the team title. She, along with her teammates, has been working hard and it showed on Friday. It's great to see her recognized for her efforts.”
Richmond will return to the course on Oct. 1 in Sacramento, Cal. for the Sacramento State Invitational at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. That race is currently set to take off at 9 a.m.
