LAST TIME OUT
Richmond leaned on the backs of Micaela Parson and Janelle Hubbard on Saturday afternoon as the pair combined for 43 points to lead the Spiders past Davidson on the road, 61-52. Parson was the catalyst, scoring a season-high 23 points to go with a season-high tying 12 rebounds, capturing the first double-double of her career. Hubbard added 20 points of her own, five rebounds and three steals as the only other Spider to reach double figures.
NATIONALLY RANKED DEFENSE
The Spiders currently rank second in the Atlantic 10, 46th in the nation in scoring defense (58.5 ppg) and first in the league, fifth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.257). The effort defending the three is the best the program has seen since the turn of the century and the team defense is the best it's been since the 2008-09 season. The team was fourth in the A-10 in scoring defense (59.6 ppg) last season.
TOLSON OUT
Graduate guard Lauren Tolson has sat out each of the last three games with a knee injury suffered against La Salle on Jan. 18. The injury did not produce any tears and will not require surgery. She will rehab and work her way back as soon as possible.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
Senior guard Janelle Hubbard will end her career as one of the greatest scorers in program history. After a brief lull towards the end of the non-conference schedule, Hubbard has averaged 15.7 points per game in conference play moving her into 6th on the all-time list and just 56 points shy of taking a position in the Top 5.
SILENT ASSASSIN
Janelle Hubbard's ability to score the ball has never been questioned but what seems to be forgotten is her ability to shoot the long ball. She has made 163 in her career, which ranks in a tie for 5th all-time, despite never making enough in a single-season to hold a top 10 position in that category.
PARSON DOES IT ALL
Last season Micaela Parson took on the role of secondary scorer to Janelle Hubbard after Lauren Tolson went down with an injury. She jumped her scoring average from 3.1 ppg as a freshman to 12.9 ppg as a sophomore as a result. This season with the return of Tolson and the emergence of Ragan Wiseman and Jaide Hinds-Clarke, Parson has dropped her scoring average to 11.1 ppg but raised her rebounding and assists to 5.6 and 3.2 per game, respectively. That all came to a head opposite St. Bonaventure when Parson nearly collected the program's first triple-double with 8 pts, 9 reb, 8 ast.
