What's New At The Robins Center For 2017-18

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- As the 2017-18 Richmond Spiders men's basketball season approaches, the athletics department is excited to announce a number of new initiatives designed to increase the "fun" at the Robins Center. The season tips off on November 10 at 7 pm vs. Delaware, presented by Carreras Jewelers. It will be Veterans Day weekend, and the Spiders will pay tribute to our nation's military throughout the game.

"We are excited to bring a number of new elements to our game day experience this season, as we yet again reaffirm the commitment to our fans to continually position ourselves as one of the top venues to see college basketball in our region," said Scott Warner, Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing/Fan Development. Here are just some of the new fan initiatives for the 2017-18 men's basketball season at the Robins Center:

Here are just some of the new fan initiatives for the 2017-18 men's basketball season at the Robins Center:
- New Mobile App - available for download in early November, the new Richmond Spiders Gameday mobile app will be available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Fans will be able to use the app to enhance their gameday experience with easily accessible information about in-venue amenities, fan guides, concessions, merchandise, and other info to go along with team schedules, live stats, score alerts, broadcasts, and will be an exclusive source of promotions and special offers. Once it is available, be sure to download and you'll receive a special offer for buy one, get one free tickets to the Georgetown game! Download the app by searching "Richmond Spiders Gameday" through the app store on your mobile device.
- New Halftime Acts - fans will think twice before leaving their seats at halftime, as we'll host a number of new halftime performances this season from acts such as the America's Got Talent winners Olate Dogs (November 10 vs. Delaware), The Sand Artist Joe Castillo (November 25 vs. Georgetown), Cirque du Soleil's Elaine Chen (December 9 vs. JMU), circus balancing act Rolla Bolla (February 7 vs. VCU), and the Air Elite Dunk Team (February 24 vs. Saint Joseph's)!
- Pitch Perfect UR A Capella Battle - excited for the release of the new movie, "Pitch Perfect 3"? Celebrate at the basketball game versus Vermont on November 29 as our university's a capella groups get together on the court for a battle to determine harmonic superiority!
- Buck and Nick's Cheering Sections - local sensations De'Monte Buckingham and Nick Sherod have developed their own fan clubs! Fans seated in the lower riser of Section 1 will now be known as "Buckingham's Palace", and fans seated in the lower portion of Section 2 will now be known as "The Sherod Squad"! Look for those sections to lead the cheers for their favorite hometown player!Â
- Fowl Shots! - a new promotion from Bojangles, any time the opposing team misses two consecutive free throws in the second half, the entire arena will win free Bojangles! Let's get loud!
- Community Nights - as an extension of the Virginia529 Scholastic Stars program, we are proud to offer specially discounted tickets to people who live, work, and spend their time in our partner localities. - Volunteer Night - are you looking for opportunities to volunteer your time in our community? Come to our Volunteer Night on January 9 versus Dayton to meet local non-profit organizations that need your help! - Retro Red Out Shirts - the Robins Center will have a retro feel this season through our official Red Out t-shirts! Season ticket holders receive a FREE shirt in the size they choose, and non-season ticket holders may purchase the official shirt through the Spider Shop or the UR bookstore.Â
- New Kids Club Experiences - members of the Spiderlings Kids Club, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, will be treated to a host of new gameday experiences at select games including a postgame shootaround, photo with the team, pregame chalk talk, arena tour, and more! Spiderlings Kids Club members will receive information throughout the season with details for how to participate. To join the Spiderlings Kids Club, click HERE. Membership is only $5 and includes free admission to select games, a free t-shirt, access to special events, and more!
- Wine, Women, and Basketball - at the December 30 game versus Davidson, a special ticket package is offered for ladies to grab their friends and watch the game from a hospitality terrace while enjoying wine tastings and food selections! For more information, give us a call at 1-877-Spider-1.
- Black History Day - on Saturday, February 17th, the Spiders will partner with the university's Office of Common Ground and the Multicultural Affairs Office to pay tribute to the month-long celebration of Black History. A pregame Minority Mentorship Program will take place, which will offer a panel discussion on diversity and being a minority in college and sports. - Let Us Host Your Birthday Party - are your kids interested in holding their birthday celebration at a Spiders basketball game? Let us host it in the Food Lion Family Fun Zone! A designated area will be made available for your party where you can celebrate with cake, ice cream, and a whole lot of fun! - New Concession Items – Your hunger will not go unsatisfied this season, as we are proud to present several new concessions items available inside the arena. New items include healthy options from the Go Light Kiosks that now include gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian selections, and three new flavors of State Fair popcorn: dill pickle, buffalo wing, and honey mustard. Also, you'll find Zaxby's chicken finger sandwiches!
- New Fun Zone Entertainment - kids and families visiting the Food Lion Family Fun Zone will be entertained by new activities including our virtual reality station, a magician at select games, giant jenga and checkers, hopscotch, chalk board, and more!
- Group Ticketing Made Easier – Have you been wanting to bring your company, youth organization, church, or other group to a game? Group ticketing is now even easier! No longer will group leaders have to worry about the hassle of determining who is in or out, collecting money, and assigning seats. Group leaders that decide to bring a group to the game will now be sent a link to a customized web page for your group, which can be easily shared with all members of your group so they may purchase individually, request who they would like to sit with, and complete their purchase all on their own.
