Thursday's Sportsline To Feature Seniors Coniker, Abell With Coach Huesman
11/07/2017 | Football
With the regular season winding down, seniors will be in the spotlight for this Thursday's lunchtime Spider Sportsline at Outback Steakhouse, 7917 West Broad Street. Defensive back Brendan Coniker and wide receiver/return specialist Porter Abell will join head coach Russ Huesman from noon-1pm.Â
The program, now in its tenth consecutive year at Outback, airs live this, and every Thursday, during the college football season from noon-1pm on ESPN 950, espnrichmond.com and RichmondSpiders.com. An audio archive of each week's show is available in the on-demand section of the SpiderTV player and in the Audio Vault at espnrichmond.com.
Coniker set the tone in the Spiders' 22-0 shutout of Villanova Saturday by forcing a fumble just shy of the goal line in the first quarter, which teammate Maurice Jackson recovered. The Richmond defense went on to a whitewashing of the Wildcats for the second straight year. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native has returned to the lineup after injuring his elbow in the season opener against Sam Houston St. In six games, he's been in on 26 tackles, with an interception and the forced fumble.
Abell has become the Spiders most reliable return specialist, handling two kickoffs and a punt in the Villanova game.  The Lexington, Va. native has also caught six passes for 109 yards this season, including two touchdowns against Howard, one of which was a highlight reel, career-best 70-yard catch and run.Â
Fans, alums and corporate partners are encouraged to attend the live show at Outback. Listeners can call-in during the program at 804-521-8501. Emails, texts and tweets can be sent anytime.
