Spiders Drop Coastal For Fourth Straight Win, 4-3

CONWAY, S.C. – Prior to the 2017 spring season, this year's University of Richmond men's tennis team was being talked about as one of the most talented rosters to step on the court for the Spiders due to the leadership of the core group of seniors and at talent of the youngsters.
Both of those are being put on display early this spring as the Spiders reeled off their fourth straight victory with a thrilling 4-3 road defeat of a tough Coastal Carolina squad.
“It was phenomenal win for us,” Assistant Coach Jamie Morgan said. “Our guys did a great job battling a tough environment. We are proud to be Spiders today as all of our guys showed a tremendous out of heart.”
The Spiders jumped out to an early lead by sweeping the doubles action to grab a 1-0 advantage.
Senior Alexandre Felisa quickly pushed that lead to 2-0 with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win over Coastal's Luiz Faria.
All-American candidate Jacob Dunbar brought Richmond within a point of victory with a straight set 6-2, 6-4 win over CCU's Vuk Velickovic.
Newcomer John Karlawish, who has been outstanding this spring, clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fifth singles position.
Richmond is back on the road next week when it heads to Greenville, N.C. for two matches. First up is ECU on Friday, Feb. 10 at at 11 a.m., followed by Appalachian State on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m.
