UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – You can't call it beginner's luck anymore.
Megan Gianforte's performance this season has stood out among all goalies in the country, and the Atlantic 10 has recognized it, naming her the Defensive Player or the Week for the second time this season.
The rookie led the way for the Spider defense on Saturday, stopping 15 shots in Richmond's 12-8 win at William & Mary. She was one save shy of matching her career high, while holding the Tribe to just 2 of 10 from the 8-meter and allowed one goal in the final 19 minutes of play.
Gianforte has allowed just 9.12 goals per game through nonconference play, compiling a .517 save percentage which is good for 10th in the country.
