SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Winning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors four times is pretty incredible.
But if you ask University of Richmond goalie Benny Pugh, the honors aren't what he's worried about.
“For our entire team, we're focused on winning and building a culture that expects to win every time we step on the field, that's all we're locked in on,” Pugh said.
Pugh's play earned him SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time on Tuesday after limiting High Point to just two goals in over 51 minutes of action.
His 10 saves marked the seventh time in nine games that the Powhatan, Va. native registered double-digits saves in a game. He is just nine saves away from 500 for his career.
On the season, he currently leads the country in goals-against-average at 5.18 and save percentage at .702.
Pugh and the Spiders are set to host #14 Virginia on Saturday at Robins Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
