UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Entering the 2017 season, it would have been tough to find a more determined group of seniors than the ones suiting up for the University of Richmond men's lacrosse team.
As the program's first-ever recruiting class, the seniors entered their final season determined to leave their legacy.
Off to the best start at 8-1 and highest ranking at #11, the Spiders are off on the right foot. The news kept getting better as two of those seniors received some high praise by Inside Lacrosse with Benny Pugh and Brendan Hynes, both being named Midseason First Team All-Americans.
Pugh, who has been named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week four times this season, currently leads the country in goals against average (5.18) and save percentage (.702).
Hynes has been a dominant force on the nation's leading defense (allowing just 5.44 goals per game). He currently leads the SoCon and ranks third in the country in caused turnovers per game (2.67), in addition to ranking second in the conference and top-40 in ground balls per game (4.67).
Richmond is back in action this Saturday when they host in-state rival and 14th-ranked Virginia. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
