
Spiders Down Rams in Regular Season Finale, 18-7

RICHMOND, Va. – With seeding for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship on the line, the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team did not take Saturday afternoon's rivalry game lightly.
The Spiders used an 11-goal run in the first half to run away from VCU, ultimately taking down the Rams, 18-7, at Cary Street Field.
Sam Geiesrbach led the way with four goals and an assist for five points, while Kim Egizi scored once and assisted on three other goals for four points. Marissa Brown, Natalia Chaney and Kathleen Berkery finished the game with three points apiece, while Aly Fries, Reagan Williams and Melissa Teel logged two points on the day.
Katie Trainer and Madison Ostrick rounded out the scoring for the Spiders, Ostrick's second half goal was the first of her career.
The Rams jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but Richmond rebounded with goals from Geiersbach and Chaney to tie it up. After VCU made it 3-2, the Spiders scored 11 straight to go up 13-3 with just over four minutes to play in the half.
VCU would score once more before the break, sending the Spiders into the half with a nine-goal lead.
Geiersbach would score again less than three minutes into the second half to set the tone, as the Spiders outscored their crosstown rivals five to three in the second stanza.
Megan Gianforte finished the game with seven saves and a .500 save percentage, while Caroline Queally dominated at the draw, winning 11 on the day to help the Spiders to a 19-8 advantage in the circle.
With the win, the Spiders move into a three-way tie for second place in the conference and will be the No. 3 seed in this year's Atlantic 10 Championship.
Richmond will face sixth-seeded La Salle on Thursday, May 4, at Saint Joseph's Sweeney Field in Philadelphia. First draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
