Egizi Named Wells Fargo Athlete of the Week
04/05/2017 | Women's Lacrosse
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Consistency is key, and in the case of University of Richmond women's lacrosse attacker Kim Egizi, it's been a main factor in her success as a Spider.
After leading an unstoppable Spider attack over the weekend that scored 38 goals and totaled 59 points in two wins, Egizi has been named the Wells Fargo Athlete of the Week.
The junior scored once and assisted on four other goals in Richmond's 20-4 win over the Dukes, before scoring twice and logging two assists in an 18-8 win in Philadelphia. She also finished the weekend with five ground balls and eleven draw controls, a career-high eight of which she won on Sunday.
Egizi also won her 100th draw control against La Salle, becoming the second active Spider to do so.
You're consistently scoring or assisting in games. What do you think leads to this consistency?
I think the flow that we have on our offense has allowed us to really connect with each other and score team goals each game. We've set each other up for success and moved to find easy openings through each play.
You have a tough road weekend coming up against George Washington and UMass. How do you prepare for weekends like this?
Individually, I try not to overthink into the future and just focus on one day at a time. This has been a theme of our whole team as well. By taking each practice at a time, we are able to focus on each play and play in that moment. We are then able to focus on what we need to improve in that moment which will help us in the long run.
What has been your favorite moment from the season so far?
My favorite moment this season has the first weekend of A-10 play. Every single person on our team was involved in both wins which is what every win should be.
Any pregame rituals or superstitions?
I have no rituals or superstitions. Before games, I try not to be too serious and like to joke around and listen whatever music we play.
What do you think has helped the team be so successful so far this season?
I think this year, our team is so close and just loves to be around each other and I think that is what has lead to our success. We love to go out each day and play for each other and set each other up for success. This mindset has allowed us to just have fun because we play lacrosse for the love of the game and for the love of each other.
