UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's lacrosse goalie Megan Gianforte has come to play.
The rookie led the Spiders to an 18-7 win over crosstown rival VCU on Saturday to earn her fourth Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Her four weekly honors tie for the most by a defensive player in the conference this season, and are the most by a Richmond goalie or defender in program history.
Gianforte allowed just seven goals and racked up seven saves against the Rams, who average 12.47 goals per game on 28.2 shots per game. It was the freshman's 14th time in 17 games with seven or more saves.
With the win, the Spiders secured the third seed in Atlantic 10 Championship and will face La Salle on Thursday at Saint Joseph's Sweeney Field. First draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
