09/14/2017 | Women's Basketball
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 2017-18 women's basketball season is fast approaching and as of Thursday afternoon, the Richmond Spiders now have a complete schedule with the release of the Atlantic 10 slate.
There will be one game on national television; a Wednesday, Jan. 10 date with Saint Joseph's on the road. That game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, which has distribution to approximately 85 million homes across America.
The Spiders will return from Christmas break after a challenging non-conference slate and hit the road right away, heading up to Rhode Island for a New Years Eve date with the Rams. The team will then ring in 2018 by welcoming Saint Louis to the Robins Center on Jan. 3.
The first of two games with La Salle will take place on Jan. 6 at home with the return to Philadelphia slated for Feb. 10 as part of back-to-back road games. The second of which will be a trip to St. Bonaventure on Valentine's Day.
After visiting Saint Joseph's the Spiders return home for Davidson on Jan. 14 before heading up to Fairfax to match up with George Mason on Jan. 17. Then it's back-to-back home games for Richmond opposite perennial A-10 powers Fordham (Jan. 21) and Dayton (Jan. 24).
The first matchup of the season with cross-town rival VCU will take place downtown on Sunday, Jan. 28 followed up by a Sunday, Feb. 18 date at the Robins Center. Richmond has matched up with VCU three times in each of the last two seasons, with the third meeting coming in the conference tournament both times.
UMass will welcome the Spiders to Amherst, Mass. on Jan. 31 and Duquesne visits on Feb. 4 before the Feb. 7 bye date arrives. After trips to La Salle and St. Bonaventure the Spiders will welcome VCU before UMass makes the return trip to the Robins Center on Feb. 21. The regular season will conclude on Feb. 24 with a colossal tilt against rival George Washington.
