Spiders Win 10 Individual Events in A-10 Preview with Fordham, La Salle

BRONX, N.Y. – The Spider Swim & Dive program got a preview of some Atlantic 10 competition on Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet with Fordham and La Salle. Richmond logged 10 first-place finishes and swept the 200 back event.

Junior Nicole Piercy started the meet winning the 1,000 free in a time of 10:26.99. She also won the 500 free at 5:07.46. Sophomore Virginia Marsh also won a pair of events in the 200 free (1:52.81) and the 100 free (51.42). Â

In the 100 back, sophomore Hannah Gouger turned in the fastest time at 56.95, as Richmond placed three in the top-five with senior Hannah Verrette (57.20) and freshman Jordan Kohut (57.54).

Seniors Annie Lane and Erin Barry finished first and second in the 100 breast stroke at 1:06.52 and 1:07.00, respectively. Barry won the 200 breast stroke touching the wall at 2:22.08 and Lane finished just behind Piercy in the 500 free in a time of 5:08.97.

The 200 back saw a clean sweep by the Spiders with Verrette leading the way as she touched the wall at 2:04.14. Gouger (2:04.29) and freshman Ellie Ronan (2:07.10) finished close behind.

Junior Morgan Soulia won the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.11 with Verrette touching at 2:09.08. The Spiders took four of the top-five spots in the event as sophomore Lexie Gilbert (2:10.51) was fourth and Ronan (2:10.93) was fifth.

On the boards, senior Laura Rokop won both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 250.00 and 273.75, respectively. Sophomore Sydney Weiskopf placed second on the 3-meter (252.00) and freshman Alex Beran finished fourth on the 1-meter (219.75).

Richmond's 200 medley relay team of Kohut, Soulia, junior Lauren Wallace and Marsh turned in a second place time of 1:47.47. The 400 free relay also finished second (Kohut, Marsh, Lane and Piercy) at 3:34.98)

The Spiders will return home for back-to-back meets beginning on Friday afternoon. Richmond will take on Villanova at noon before facing Campbell on Saturday morning. Both meets will be available on the Atlantic 10 Network.
