Seniors Shine in Final Home Meet Saturday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spider Swim & Dive team shined in the team's Senior Day meet with Campbell. The Spiders won eight individual events including four from seniors. Â

The Spiders won the meet 155-124.
Â
Senior Annie Lane picked up a pair of wins in the 1,000 free (10:34.99) and the 100 breast stroke (1:06.32). Just behind Lane in the 100 breast stroke was classmate Erin Barry who took second at 1:07.20. Senior Hannah Verrette won the 100 back in a time of 57.21 with freshman Ellie Ronan close behind at 58.84.

In addition to her second place finish in the 100 breast stroke, Barry won the 200 breast stroke in a time of 2:22.18.

Sophomore Hannah Gouger and junior Nicole Piercy finished first and second in the 200 free at 1:55.04 and 1:55.34, respectively. Gouger also took the top spot in the 200 back stroke (2:00.68) with Verrette in second (2:03.83).

The Spiders swept the 500 free with sophomore Virginia Marsh leading the way at 5:04.55. Piercy (5:09.55) and junior Lauren Wallace (5:11.93) came in second and third, respectively. Richmond also took the top-three spots in the 200IM with junior Morgan Soulia leading the Spiders as she touched at 2:06.99.

In the relays, Richmond won the 200 free in a time of 1:36.40 and was second in the 200 medley at 1:48.01.

Richmond has won 15 of the last 16 A-10 titles and will return to action on Wednesday, February 14 looking to defend its title. The championship returns to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from February 14-17. Annie Lane
The Vinton, Va. native holds the all-time records in the 200 free (1:48.00) and 500 free (4:46.39). She will be graduating in May with a Bachelors in chemistry and will be attending Optometry School in the fall.

Erin Barry
The Millington, N.J. native ranks in the top-10 in program records for the 100 and 200 breast stroke. She is a four-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll member and is a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trial participant. She will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and will participate in a medical fellowship program in Italy for a month.

Emily Landon
A Kingstown, R.I. native has had a successful career. This season she has turned in sixth place finishes in the 100 breast stroke on two occasions. She will be graduating in May with a double major in International Studies with a concentration in world politics and diplomacy and Arabic. Landon plans to go to law school or work for the government.

Laura Rokop
Rokop, a native of Wildwood, Mo. has scored points for the Spiders in each of her three Atlantic 10 Championships and is a three-time NCAA Zone Qualifier, including reaching the mark this season on the 1-meter board at the Richmond Duals. She will graduate in May with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing and leadership studies. She will stay in Richmond where she has already accepted a job as a Brand Analyst.

Lauren McRae
This year McRae, a Charlotte, N.C. native, has turned in a top-five finish in the 50 fly (27.50), and top-10 finishes in the 50 back (29.29) and 100 back (1:01.30). She is a four-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll member. McRae will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in psychology. She will attend graduate school to get a PhD in either physical or organic chemistry.

Hannah Verrette
Verrette ranks in the top ten all-time in both the 100 back and 200 back. Last season she won the bronze medal in the 200 back at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Verrette, a native of Marblehead, Mass. will graduate in May with a degree in Biology and Religion as healing modalities. Following graduation she plans to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant prior to applying to Physicians Assistant School.
