Both Lori Taylor (women's coach) and Steve Taylor (men's coach) were optimistic about the results, saying it was a good sign for the Atlantic 10 Championships in two weeks. About the men's team, Steve Taylor says, "I'm encouraged by the effort of our younger athletes. Four of our top 7 have freshman eligibility and it's their first experience competing against this level of competition. They managed the environment and gave good performances. Overall, we come away from today with positive thoughts leading into the A10 Championships in two weeks." On the other hand, Lori Taylor was equally pleased with the results and also looking for areas to improve moving forward, saying, "We had some solid performances today and need to clean up a couple aspects of our racing going into the A10 Championships in two weeks. Our team optimism is high and our goals remain the same. We are now entering our championship portion of the season and looking forward to the upcoming races."
The men looked strong despite the high level of competition. Junior Miles Clikeman led the Spider men with a time of 24:51.7 and a place finish of 78 out of a field of nearly 250 runners. The rest of the first five finishers where freshman Peter Borger (25:25.2), senior Johnny Hogue (25:49.9), freshman Paul Knepple (25:50.3) and senior Alex Lucking (26:03.2) with a 1-5 spread of 1:11.6.
The women also had a good day on the course with a 22nd of 35 team finish against 20 of the top NCAA teams in the country. Senior Amanda Corbosiero led the women with a time of 21:24.5 and a finish of 71 out nearly 250 runners in the category. The Richmond top five finishers were junior Ave Grosenheider (21:38.3) and seniors Courtney Thompson (21:59.1), Jordan Angers (22:21.4) and junior Claire Brown (22:31.7)
