Mitchell Leads Spiders To Edge Over Columbia
10/13/2018 | Women's Golf
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Freshman Naomi Mitchell fired a career-best 72 (E) Saturday at Independence Golf Club as the Spiders jumped out to an 11-stroke lead over Columbia halfway through their 36-hole match.
Mitchell posted five birdies, two more than anyone else in the field of 15, and holds a one-shot lead over two players on the individual leaderboard. Richmond senior Sophie DiPetrillo and Columbia's Qingyi Symba Xu each shot 73 (+1).
"Naomi did a fantastic job today," said head coach Ali Wright. "We've had two freshmen shoot even par rounds in the last two tournaments which is great for our program." Freshman Emily Ward shot an even-par 72 Monday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
The match will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday, with tee times beginning at 8:50 AM.
