SIMPSONVILLE, KY. – Richmond completed its fall season Sunday with a 10th-place finish at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Kentucky. Richmond's total of 937 (+73) tied Chattanooga for 10th in the 14-team field.
The Spiders started their day by finishing round two, which they were unable to complete on Saturday, before returning to the course for their final round of the fall. Annie Collom, who set the program's 18-hole scoring record with a five-under 67 a week ago, fired a one-over 73 to finish at 227 (+11) and in 24th place, Richmond's top individual finisher.
The Cardinal Cup was the last of the Spiders five events this fall. "We had a lot of strong individual performances this fall, and I'm looking forward to having everything come together when we're back on the course and competing together this spring," said head coach Ali Wright. "We have a lot of small things to clean up this offseason, and hard work during this time off from competition is going to get us to a great place for the spring."
Among their accomplishments this fall, the Spiders earned a second-place team finish at the season-opening Kingsmill Intercollegiate and set a program record for lowest 18-hole score with a one-under 287 in their stroke-play match against Columbia. And while Collom set the school's single-round scoring record, fellow senior Sophie DiPetrillo became the program's all-time leader in career scoring average.
Collom and DiPetrillo are slated to lead the Spiders at next spring's Patriot League Championship, where Richmond will be seeking its fourth straight conference title. The Spiders will host the event at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va. on April 20-21.
The remainder of the Spiders spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
