Swimming and Diving Finishes Competition at the Patriot Invite

Patriot Invite - Final

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving team finished up the three-day Patriot Invite Saturday evening in Fairfax, Virginia. The Spiders finished the competition in sixth place, one behind the host, George Mason. Nine teams competed in all, with the top spot going to UNC Wilmington.

The final day of competition featured a preliminary round that started at 10 a.m., before the finals at 6 p.m. Events that occurred on the last day included the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 1650-yard freestyle. The finals featured the same events and added a 400-yard freestyle relay to close the invitational.

Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) notched a top-10 finish in the 200-yard individual medley, earning a time of 2:06.34 in the finals, placing seventh. Morgan Soulia (Wexford, Pa.) added a 14^th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley finals with a time of 2:08.41. Nicole Piercy (Newport News, Va.) added a 12^th-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:38.41. Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.) finished in eighth-place in the A-Final of the 200-yard backstroke, turning in a time of 2:04.31.

Ellie Ronan (Marblehead, Mass.) finished 11^th in the 200-yard backstroke, competing in the B-Final. Ronan finished with a 2:04.78 time, her best time of the season. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Lexie Gilbert (Annapolis, Md.) earned a 12^th-place finish with a time of 2:24.33. Soulia was the Spiders' top finisher in the 200-yard butterfly. The senior finished in ninth, earning the top spot of the B-Final with a 2:06.65 time. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Soulia, Gouger, Lauren Wallace (Charlotte, N.C.) and Manning turned in a top 10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 3:32.15.

The Spiders are back in action November 30 and December first, taking part in a two-day event at George Washington.
