This week, we look back at the Spiders' 35-0 Homecoming victory over VMI, marking the fifth-straight win for Richmond, improving to 5-2 on the year.
Quarterback Buster O'Brien was hard to handle for the Keydets in the win, connecting on 18-of-23 in the air for 249 yards. O'Brien's 23 pass attempts and 249 were new school records. He connected on his first 11 passes in the game and helped the Spiders build a 21-0 halftime lead.
O'Brien connected on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Frank Olejack and hit Jim Livesay on a 46-yard touchdown pass. He played into the third quarter before coming out of the game with the Spiders' lead well in hand.
Richmond's defense was stout in the shutout victory, its second of the season after a 34-0 blanking of Furman. The Spiders sacked VMI quarterback Murphy Sprinkel six times in the victory. The defense also scored the game's first touchdown as Buzz Montsinger intercepted Sprinkel in the first half and returned it 46-yards for a score.
