John Yarbrough Named Virginia’s Offensive Lineman Of The Year By Touchdown Club Of RVA
12/05/2018 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond senior John Yarbrough (Homewood, Ala.) has been named the top offensive lineman in the state of Virginia by the Touchdown Club of Richmond Wednesday morning. Yarbrough is just one of two players from the FCS level to earn an award that includes four players from Virginia and one each from Virginia Tech and James Madison.
Yarbrough's honor marks the fourth time in the last five years that a Spider has earned this honor (Thomas Evans, 2016; Nick Ritcher, 2015; Austin Gund, 2014). Yarbrough earned Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors this past year, marking the second-straight year he has been recognized. He was named Third-Team All-CAA last year.
This season, Yarbrough was the jack of all trades for the Spiders, playing snaps at all five offensive line positions during the year and making starts at center, right guard and right tackle. He was part of the Richmond offensive line that ranked third in the CAA allowing only 21 sacks against. He started all 11 games on the year and finished his Spider career with 29-consecutive starts.
The 14 players will be honored at the Dudley/Lanier Awards Banquet on Wednesday, December 12, at the Hilton Richmond Hotel, 12042 West Broad Street, Richmond. The banquet starts at 7:00pm with a social at 6:00pm. Tickets to the event cost $50.00 and may be purchased by calling Ron Axselle, 804.310.0222, or tdclubofrichmond@verizon.net.
The Touchdown Club of Richmond is a sports-social organization, based in Richmond, that promotes the best interests of the American game of football and sports in general, under the guidance of elected officers, with the predominate purpose being to recognize worthy athletes for their accomplishments and to encourage them to continue their education and athletic careers.
The club's membership compiles a ballot from all the football playing colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The ballot is then distributed to the club's membership for voting to determine the 14 award winners, seven at each level, NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II, III/NAIA/USCAA.
