
Spiders Sweep George Mason to Open A-10 Play

MONTCLAIR, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team didn't let a long break from competition affect them in Friday's Atlantic 10 opener.
The Spiders used solid singles and doubles play to sweep George Mason, 7-0, for their first win of the season.
"This was a good start to A-10 play for us," head coach Mark Wesselink said after the win. I thought we looked very solid, especially for our third match of the season."
The Spiders dominated doubles play to go up 1-0 in the match. Adrienne Haynes and Lea Owens took down George Mason's Nicole Haigwood and Hannah Cianciola on court 3, 6-1, before Lyndell Giffenig and Kiana Marshall took down Brianna Gibbs and Hannah Yang at No. 2, 6-3. Dessi Zlateva and Emily Dunbar completed the doubles sweep at No. 1, defeating Sydney Green and Rachel Lee, 6-4.
Singles play continued just as doubles did, as all six Spiders logged two-set victories. Dunbar, Owens and Marshall all logged 6-1, 6-2 victories on courts 1, 3 and 4, respectively, while Zlateva took down Gibbs on court 2, 6-2, 6-2.
Gaby Rosales took the win on court 5 for the Spiders, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Kayleigh Hahn, and Ana Ramirez rounded out the scoring, taking down Liz Lowe at No. 6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Spiders return to action next Friday, February 23, when they travel to Charlottesville to face Virginia. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
