UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Jamie Montgomery has been named the new head coach for the Spider Hockey program. Montgomery will join the Spiders after spending the last season as an assistant coach with Wake Forest University.
"We are excited to welcome an outstanding coach to the University of Richmond that supports the scholar-athlete model while achieving success at the hightlest levels," said Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hardt. "Coach Montgomery brings a wealth of success and experience as well as great positive energy to our program. I'm looking forward to her leadership and the future success of Spider Field Hockey."
Montgomery, a four-year starter for the Demon Deacons, was a member of two national championship teams and two ACC title squads. She earned All-ACC, NCAA All-Tournament and Second Team All-American honors.
"I am absolutely thrilled and truly honored to take the lead of the Richmond field hockey program," Montgomery said. "In getting to know the team, the athletic department, and the university as a whole, it is clear the University of Richmond offers a special blend of high-end academics and competitive athletics that provide an incredible platform for successful student-athletes. Coming to Richmond is a chance to recruit the best and the brightest that is all a motivated coach could ever want. The strong leadership and hard work of past coaches and players have made the Spider Hockey program what it is today, and I look forward to building on that tradition, helping the team achieve on the field, in the classroom and in the community. I owe a huge thank you to LaRee Sugg (Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator) and John Hardt for giving me this opportunity and I cannot wait to get started."
During her career with the Deacs, Montgomery was a member of the U.S. Field Hockey Junior National Team (2004-06) and competed in the 2005 Junior PanAm Games and the Junior World Cup.
Following her graduation from Wake Forest in 2007, with a degree in English and sociology, she was a graduate assistant at Temple where she completed her Master of Education in 2009. While at Temple she was a member of the U.S. Senior Developmental Team.
Following her stint at Temple, Montgomery joined the Bucknell staff in 2009 and was promoted to the associate head coach in 2013. While with the Bison, the team went to four-consecutive Patriot League Tournaments.
