
Spiders Fall in Hard Fought Match at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team competed in its second road match of the weekend on Sunday, falling 6-1 at William & Mary.
William & Mary controlled singles play with wins on courts 1-5, but junior Ana Ramirez was able to take a 6-4, 7-5 win on court 6 over Olivia Thaler. Lea Owens was close to a win at No. 3, but ultimately fell to Clara Tanielian, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).

"We've battled through the toughest part of our schedule, and the team feels good about competing so well against nationally ranked teams," head coach Mark Wesselink said.

"Ana played her strongest match yet in her win at No. 6," Wesselink added. "Lea also had chances to close out a tough opponent at No. 3, but fell just short in the tiebreaker."
The Spiders return to action on Friday, March 2, when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face A-10 foe George Washington. Match time is set for 1 p.m.William & Mary 6, Richmond 1
