Spiders Fall in A-10 Matchup at George Washington
03/02/2018 | Women's Tennis
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team was unable to overcome a strong George Washington team, falling to the Colonials on Friday afternoon, 6-1.
"This match should provide some motivation for our young team," head coach Mark Wesselink said. "We've shown some nerves that have cost us in tight matches this season, but we're looking forward to getting outside to play more matches."
George Washington took a 1-0 lead with wins on doubles courts 1 and 3. The No. 2 pair of Emily Dunbar and Dessi Zlateva took a 6-2 win over Julia Herlogsson and Sara Grubac, but it wouldn't be enough to earn a point for the Spiders.
Junior Ana Ramirez won the lone singles point for the Spiders for the second-straight match, taking down Diana Kussainova on court 5, 7-5, 6-7(10), 10-4.
Richmond returns to action on Sunday, March 4, when they travel to Annapolis to take on Navy. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
