Spiders Fall to Delaware, 4-3

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team battled back from an early deficit, but couldn't overcome Delaware on Friday evening, falling 4-3 at the Country Club of Virginia.
The Blue Hens took an early 1-0 lead with a doubles point win. The Spider pair of Kiana Marshall and Dessi Zlateva managed to hold off Sarah Hall and Sarah Whited on court 2, 7-6 (6), for the lone doubles win.
The Spiders looked to bounce back in singles action, and Marshall moved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Whited on court 4, but Delaware was able to clinch the match with wins on court 1-3. Ana Ramirez and Gaby Rosales wouldn't back down despite the loss, as each were able to log a win in a third set tiebreaker on courts 5 and 6, respectively. Ramirez took down Hall, 7-6, 5-7, 10-8, while Rosales defeated Draga Sabotic, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
The Spiders will now head out for their Spring Break trip to Florida. The week begins with a trip to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic on Monday, March 12. Match time is set for 9 a.m.
