WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's golf team competed at the William & Mary Intercollegiate to begin this week and finished third overall, thanks in large-part to junior Sophie DiPetrillo's sixth, top-10, finish already this season.
Â
Sophie has been at the top of her game this year. Her season stroke average of 75.14 to this point ranks as the second best in a single season in program history. Her -2, 70 in the second round on Monday helped the Spiders to a team score of 294, which is tied for the fourth-lowest team round in program history. Sophie fired rounds of 75-70-78, 223 (+7) to finish fourth overall at the event.
Freshman Lizzie Reedy continued her strong play as well, rolling out the best score of her young career to start the week in the form of an even-par 72 followed up by rounds of 74 and 83 to close the tournament in a tie for eighth overall. Her debut stroke average of 76.33 currently ranks as the fifth-best single season average of all-time.
Â
Annie Collom claimed her fourth top 20 of the season with a +18, 233 to finish 18th overall. She has outperformed her career stroke average by nearly a full stroke to this point. Elsa Diaz followed closely behind, finishing 22nd overall by firing a +19, 235.
The Spiders will look to continue this historic run in a couple of weeks when it travels to Sarasota, Fla. for the Harvard Invitational. That event will serve as the final preparation for the Patriot League Championship where the Spiders will look to win a third straight title.
